Why should you take the time to document your skills and earn your C.P.M. this year? After all, this program will take a personal commitment of your time and in most cases the support of your employer for the expenses.

My reply, is how can you afford not to be certified? In this changing world and economy very few of our members are in the same position or with the same company they were a few years ago. Increasingly employers are looking for and specifying the C.P.M as their first choice in screening applications. Other resumes may not even be considered. Make yourself more valuable to your current or future employers by earning the C.P.M.

There are many ways to prepare for the exams. Your NAPM Western Michigan, Inc. Board has scheduled and secured training materials to conduct review sessions. I need to know how many of our members are interested in reviewing for exams 1 & 2 in an open group setting. This is often the best way to understand exam questions and gain momentum to proceed. The I.S.M. website (http://www.ism.ws) is also a great place to start with extensive information on the requirements and types of study material available.

C.P.M. Requirements

Applicants for C.P.M. certification must pass all four modules of the C.P.M. exam. In addition, the applicant must (a) have five years of full-time professional (non-clerical, non-support) purchasing and supply management experience, or (b) have a four-year degree from an accredited institution and three years of full-time professional purchasing and supply management experience.

Often the issues with members are trying to fit study time into a busy personal and professional life. I completely understand having completed my college degree and C.P.M. with years of night school and a young family. My suggestion is to break the program down into smaller do-able parts and complete each one until your goal is achieved. I suggest taking each of the four exams separately to reduce the amount of material needed to be reviewed and allow the student to focus energy on a smaller subject right before taking the exam.
